Every file has latitude / longitude columns in WGS84 (EPSG:4326) and is UTF-8, so it loads straight into ArcGIS, QGIS or Excel as XY points. County points are Census county centroids; join on county_fips to colour county polygons instead.

US prices come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's annual EIA-861 utility survey: each utility's commercial and industrial revenue divided by its sales, so they are all-in averages (energy, delivery and demand charges together) rather than a quoted tariff. A utility's price applies to every county it serves. In retail-choice areas such as most of Texas, the local wires utility bills delivery only, so the state average is the better guide.

Available capacity and Canadian tariffs are found by searching utility, economic development and certified-site pages for each state and province, then reading each page for stated figures: MW available at a substation or site, service voltage, or a commercial / industrial rate schedule. Only what the page states is kept, with a link to it. Canadian prices are in Canadian dollars.

Spare grid capacity changes quickly and is rarely published in full. Treat these figures as a starting point and confirm availability, cost and timing with the serving utility.
